Hot Tips for Buying the Right Outdoor Fountain

Can you think of any larger investment than a home or business? They're some of the biggest ones that anyone makes. So making investments for those investments are certainly worthwhile. That includes the purchase of an outdoor fountain. Such fountains can help to increase the aesthetic and monetary value of your home's yard or office building's grounds. Here are some helpful tips for choosing the right fountain for your residence or company:

1. Shop online and offline

There are benefits of both types of shopping for an outdoor fountain. Online shopping makes comparison shopping much easier, so making side-by-side comparisons of different models will be quicker and easier. On the other hand, buying a fountain for outdoors isn't quite like buying a tune online for an electronic gadget. There's something to be said about seeing and inspecting a fountain in person, before making a purchase. So it's highly advisable that you use both shopping methods when searching for a fountain for outdoors.

2. Break out your tape measure

Since homes' yards and office buildings' grounds tend to be fairly large, it might seem tempting to choose a fountain of a certain size, after eyeballing it. You shouldn't! It's highly advisable that you get the exact measurements of a particular outdoor fountain and the area where you'll be installing it, before choosing a particular model. This is particularly true if you're planning to place items around the fountain, such as a plant garden or rock garden. Without doing the measurements before you choose a particular fountain, you might find out afterwards that you should have chosen a smaller or larger fountain.

3. Do your homework about different stones

While the majority of outdoor fountain models are made of stone, the types of stones can vary greatly. You don't have to become a geologist. Still, it's important to learn about the basic stone types that outdoor fountains are constructed of. Certain types of stones are cheaper than other types are, based mainly on their durability. So there's a direct link between the type of stone used to build a certain fountain for outdoors, and its price tag. Doing the research will also help to avoid overpriced fountains made from stone types that erode quicker than others do.

4. Decide who will install the fountain

An outdoor fountain is typically fairly easy to install. However, that isn't always the case, based on factors such as the fountain's size and weight, and the amount of excavation needed. Like other Do It Yourself (DIY) projects, if you're uncertain about whether or not you can successfully install a certain fountain for outdoors, then you should probably let a professional handle it. That said, when calculating the total cost of a particular fountain for outdoors, make sure to factor in the installation costs if you're going to have it professionally installed.

5. Consider custom-made fountains

If you're unable to find the "perfect" fountain for outdoors that has all of the specifications you're looking for (i.e. style, size, and material) then you should definitely consider a custom-made fountain. One of the drawbacks of such fountains is that they'll have a significantly higher price tag. However, that's OK if it provides your home's yard or office building's grounds with the precise fountain that you're looking for. After all, many of the benefits of an outdoor water fountain can be priceless.
